Josh Bard and Chris Young and were placed on the disabled list for 15 days as they were sidelined by the injuries they sustained in the match with St. Louis Cardinals last Wednesday. Chris Young was hit on the nose by Pujols pitch in the third inning and Bard had to suffer from a severe left ankle sprain also in the third inning. Padres manager Buddy Black said that he was not certain when Young will be joining his team and he expects Brad to be out of action for at least 4-6 weeks. The Padres have made the necessary replacements for these two injured players and are hoping to have them back in their lineup as soon as possible.

Perhaps he was tired of managing the Orange County Flyers, or he’s just a really big fan of the Mets, either way Gary Carter regretted making a comment about wanting to be the Mets’ manager. He later realized his folly and apologized for being overly eager about leaving his current job to be with the Mets. Carter was overheard mulling over the decision to ask Fred Wilpon, owner of the Mets if there are job openings. After regretting his mistaken, he went on air and told ESPN that he never did intend for this to get out of hand. Carter stressed that while he desires a job with the bigger leagues, he wants Wilpon to decide on his own.

The Red Sox right hander Bartolo Colon signaled his return to the Boston Red Sox team with six hits in five innings and allowed just two runs in the Red Sox 6-3 victory over Kansas City Royals last Wednesday night. Bartolo Colon said that he was really impressed with the way his elbow supported him at the mound. This soon to be 35 year old super baseball veteran has now made 307 starts in his illustrious career and was cheered by his loyal fans throughout the game. Colon revealed that he was feeling really tense during the first inning and all the butterflies in the stomach subsided once he settled down.

The Florida Marlins were proud to announce the signing of a six year contract with super baseball player Hanley Ramirez for an astronomical sum of $ 70 million. The Marlins are also going all out to create a new ballpark in order to increase the revenue for the franchisee. About 250 odd fans cheered the Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria and the newly signed Ramirez for their attempts to help MLB stay in South Florida. Ramirez said that he was very much excited about joining the Marlins team and expects to play many a bigger role for the soon to be renamed Miami Marlins in the new stadium that is getting ready.

The Philadelphia Phillies played some sensible baseball in the fourth, fifth and seventh inning of their baseball game against the Atlanta Braves to beat them by 5-4 last Tuesday night. It was the four run contribution by Jayson Werth and the match winning pitching skills of Kyle Kendrick that handed the defeat to the Phillies. The deafening noise in the stadium made Werth to miscue a shot even though he read the swing of the ball. The Phillies came up with a stupendous performance after trailing 3-0 in the first inning. The super hitter Werth said that he was not hitting the guys properly during practice, but was really pleased that all his hitting came good when it really mattered.

The slugger of the Seattle Mariners team Richie Sexson has been suspended from playing six games for his team by the Major League Baseball for charging the mound and throwing the helmet on Texas pitcher Kasan Gabbard last Thursday night. Sexson has asked the players association to go for an appeal against the ban and wants his suspension to be delayed until the hearing of his case. The reason for the super duel between Sexson and Gabbard is a throw that was eye high for slugger and was over the plate than being inside. Seattle manager John McLaren felt that the ban was long due to the helmet incident and the fans will be missing the hitter for a week

 

The New York Yankees manager Joe Giradi has said that that the Yankees management will take it easy on their young player Ian Kennedy who has been struggling to play the game of baseball like a true Yankee professional. There have been speculations circulating that the formless Kennedy will be sent to the Minors League to get himself in better shape to play for the Yankees. Giradi said that the team does not need a fifth starter till the game on May 10 and hence a decision on Kennedy will be taken after further discussions.

 

Giradi is of the opinion that the 23 year old super right hander will be benefited by staying back in the Yankees camp as he could have instant attention from pitching Coach Dave Eiland. The Yankees are also short of players due to injury and hence many fans believe that the think tank of the Yankees will stick on to the services of Ian Kennedy.

The MLB Players Association want to know why big time players who are also free agents have failed to secure much deserved major league contracts. Numerous MLB players that have still yet to be signed on include Kenny Lofton, Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens and Jose Mesa. When pressed for information, Michael Weiner who was the MLBPA’s general counsel refused to give any updates. Jeff Borris, Bonds’ agent revealed that no one has approached him to take on Bonds’ talents, and instead Bonds have been spending his time working out and keeping a positive mindset. He hopes to see Bonds in a MLB uniform come mid 2008.


The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim came up with a superlative performance to beat the Detroit Tigers at the Comerica Park and kept on their reputation of winning baseball games away from home. The Angels tamed the Tigers in their own home with a 6-2 convincing win, thanks to the super throwing skills of Weaver. The away win records for the Angels now stands as at 10-5 and is the most by any clubs at the Majors.

 

The batting skills of Aybar and Hunter also played a major role in sealing the game for the Angels. Weaver said that he felt that he pitched pretty well in the game and said that he was concentrating really hard on getting the pitching right against a formidable offensive batting strength. The Angels fans would be really overjoyed with the three consecutive road game wins that the Angels have achieved and will be looking forward to see their team keep up the momentum in the seven home games to follow.
