Perhaps he was tired of managing the Orange County Flyers, or he’s just a really big fan of the Mets, either way Gary Carter regretted making a comment about wanting to be the Mets’ manager. He later realized his folly and apologized for being overly eager about leaving his current job to be with the Mets. Carter was overheard mulling over the decision to ask Fred Wilpon, owner of the Mets if there are job openings. After regretting his mistaken, he went on air and told ESPN that he never did intend for this to get out of hand. Carter stressed that while he desires a job with the bigger leagues, he wants Wilpon to decide on his own.
