The Milwaukee Brewers have brought in a new skipper again.  They had changed managers most recently with 12 games left in the regular season, when they showed Ned Yost the door following a weak month.  The Brewers are badly in need of some retooling, because there is something rather confused about their system. They keep having breakdowns at the end of the season.  They did make the playoffs for the first time in 20 years this season, but that’s not good enough.  They have to jump in and really get it this time.  Hopefully the new skipper, Ken Macha, who was most recently with the Oakland A’s with two uneventful seasons, can bring them back into contention and give them a good fighting chance!

So the Rays had a rough weekend, didn’t they?  They started the weekend tied up with the Phillies; now they’re down two games.  Just like that.  What a tough time for Tampa.  The Rays batting just hasn’t been present in the last few games, with several of their best hitters batting a grand total of 0%.  The bullpen hasn’t been holding up very well either, giving up several runs late in the last two games.  The Rays that we thought we knew and that might’ve had a chance haven’t showed up yet.  Their win on Thursday was due to the impressive pitching of their opener and closer that night.  Otherwise, the strength of the team has been really waning.  Where did they go?  Are they just nervous because they’re young? Philly is young too, and I would think that they would be nervous as well.  Who knows.  But they’d best get themselves in gear soon, otherwise the offseason is going to begin very soon indeed.

So it’s all tied up!  The Phillies have won a game, the Rays have won a game!  Many people predicted blowouts for the Phillies, thinking that the NL champion should be able to win it in 4 or 5 games.  But now we really have an interesting series on our hands.  The Phillies have underperformed so far, going 1 for 28 with runners in scoring position in the first two games. The Rays pitching, however, has taken it a step up, with both the starter and the closer last night giving up only 1 run in nearly 8 innings of play.  This World Series looks like it may go 6 or even 7 games, and will probably feature more low-scoring games like the first two.  The Phillies haven’t played in a World Series since 1993, when they lost to the Blue Jays.  The Rays haven’t had the chance to play in a World Series before this year and also haven’t played in very many postseason games either. Both sets of fans are ready and can almost feel the victory!  It will definitely be an exciting week ahead!

There’s not a whole lot else to talk about in baseball at this time of year and if there is, it better be pretty huge news to overshadow the World Series. So Boston couldn’t do it. Manny couldn’t do it. They can still play the consolation game right? It’s going to be the hard hitting Phillies versus the equally hard-hitting Tampa Bay Rays. Each team slugged their way through the postseason, tallying up homeruns like pennies. Now the stage is set and we get to see who can outslug the other. Thanks to the All Star game, Tampa Bay receives the home field advantage. The Series starts this Wednesday but you can preview it all by clicking here.

Not much of a sweat for the Philadelphia Phillies, who slugged their way through the LA Dodgers with relative ease. Aside from stumbling one time on the road in LA, the Phillies took the series in 5 games. After a lead off homerun by Jimmy Rollins, the rest of the team went to work and took the Dodgers ball club apart. Now they play the waiting game as they prepare to face off against either the Tampa Bay Rays or the Boston Red Sox. Keep up-to-date on Philadelphia’s World Series run and visit MLB.com.

He sat in the dug out for nearly the entire game with a red pullover on. Then, in the eighth inning he stood up, walked out to the plate, took one good swing, ran about 360 feet, and will be remembered forever as the hero of game 4. With the game tied and the Phillies rallying, Matt Stairs was called in for a pinch hit in which he delivered big. His two run shot proved to be the go-ahead run(s) in the Phillies 7-5 victory over the Dodgers. Only one more victory and the Phillies will have a shot to be the year’s best. The thrill of baseball continues! Nothing compares with baseball in October. After a long season and elimination process, it is coming down to the best playing the best. Baseball fans have the ACLS and NCLS to look forward to. In the American championship, the Boston Red Sox and the Tampa Bay Rays will face off come Friday. In the National championship, L.A. Dodgers and the Philadelphia Phillies will play one another starting on Thursday.

With the Chicago Cubs losing two games in a row and the White Sox trying to play catch up during their game, Chicago baseball fans were in a world of pain this week. Both teams failed to deliver the much needed and anticipated wins their fans were expecting. The LA Dodgers on the other hand, had a fantastic run at Wrigley Field, just as the Tampa Bay Rays were able to make a come back and win. Welcome to October baseball!
