Good news to all the Yankee fans. The New York Yankees have announced that they will be slashing ticket prices by more than 40 percent for the front-row seats. The Yankees are doing this in hopes to fill unfilled areas that were seen to all of America when the Yankees held their season opener. Most of the seats that were located in the second and third decks were sold for the opener. Seats that were located in the first nine rows with cushioned blue seats with teak arm rest were all empty. Those seats were priced at 500 dollars and above. Many of the season ticket holders that have seats in front rows are unhappy with the tickets prices being slashed. They are unhappy because the ticket prices were not reduced for them. 

While most of the nation’s baseball-filled eyes will be looking at the New York - Boston series this weekend, most of the people in the middle of the country will be watching a very different rivalry: the one between the Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals. It’s going to be an outstanding series. Last weekend’s first series between these two teams was about as crazy as we’ve come to expect from these teams and this weekend will be even better, with the temperatures in St. Louis rising way up to the upper 80s perhaps. These two teams play great games, no matter who’s up or down in the standing, you can believe that it’s going to be a back-and-forth game with some kind of strange ending. Prepare to enjoy!

The Taiwanese RHP for the Yankees, Chien-Ming Wang, has been taken off the rotation for this weekend’s series against the Boston Red Sox. The pitcher was not pleased about it, as he feels that it’s his job to go out and pitch everytime he’s scheduled. But the team doesn’t want to put him on the mound until they can fix him. He’s clearly broken in some way, and no one is quite sure how. Last year, he was an impressive pitcher till he hurt his leg on 3rd base. This season, he’s pitched 3 times already, and given up 8 runs in each of two games and 7 in another, resulting in a 34.5 ERA. This is a bad start for Wang and he’s clearly right in most opponent’s wheelhouse at the moment. They’re going to take him out to retool for a little while and see what they can change about his delivery to get him back in the lineup.

The New York Mets move into their new stadium this year, which is will now be known at Citi Field. This new stadium features all of the best New York’s culinary offerings. Citi Field has a fresh fish sandwich shop titled, “Catch of the Day,” that offers guarantee fresh fried flounder topped with homemade tartar sauce on a fresh potato roll. Citi Field features a 41 percent increase of concessions venues then that of old Shea Stadium. They also offer food from will known restaurateurs such as Danny Meyer, Drew Nieporent, and Pasternack. Items such as the burgers from Shake Shack’s are such hot sellers that Mets fans pledge to get into the stadium early, so this way they don’t have to wait in line to get their mouth watering burgers.

When you load the bases, you might expect that the at-bat team will get some kind of runs out of it. If there’s a good pitcher, he might get them to ground out or strike out the side. On the other hand, when the Cubs’ Ryan Dempster loaded the bases on Sunday against the Brewers and then gave up a high-fly ball, it looked like all was lost. It looked like a Grand Slam was about to happen in Milwaukee. But Reed Johnson came to the rescue and ended up catching the grand-slam ball just before it went over the wall. It was an amazing catch and should be one of the plays of the week, in my mind. It was certainly a lot of fun to see this kind of extra-effort catch. Make sure to check out the video. And the Cubs won by 3 runs, so the catch was fully necessary.

   On Sunday afternoon in Anaheim the Angels lost two players and their manager all to ejections but some how they still managed to beat the Boston Red Sox. Former New York Yankee, Bobby Abreu was involved with the incident when Red Sox pitcher, Josh Beckett through a fast ball right at the head of Abreu. This incident lead to the ejections of Torii Hunter, Justin Speier, and manager Mike Scioscia. Vladimir Guerrero hit his first home run of the season with a monster bomb to left field in the eighth inning against Red Sox pitcher Hideki Okajima. All this happened only three days after the Angels lost one of their own, Nick Adenhart and two others who were killed in an automobile accident yearly Thursday morning.      

CC Sabathia wasn’t able to play his best last night in the Yankee’s opening game, being beaten down by the Baltimore Orioles in a major way. A good team, yes, but they weren’t able to hold it, with the new pitcher throwing two wild pitches, and getting no strikeouts at all. It was a sad evening for the Yankees, but it is just one game. Sabathia got a high priced contract in the offseason when they brought him in from Milwaukee and they hope that he will become a much more major part of the starting rotation than he is right now. He probably just needs to get his bearings a little bit more and we’ll see what happens!

The New York Yankees have a ticketing hike coming this year. This wont surprise much of anyone who follows baseball, but it’s still kind of a shock when the average price for tickets rises from $40’s to the $70s in one year. This is one of the issues that touches many people right where it hurts. You might want to see the Yankees play in person, but you might not do it with a family or anything if it costs $50 per person. Then again, the team might be good enough to warrant that, and perhaps there are enough New Yorkers who can afford it.
